S. Korea Defeat China in a One-point Thriller to Win Seventh Consecutive Archery Olympic Title

South Korea won their seventh consecutive Olympic gold in archery. The epic battle between South Korea and China was held at Lord‘s cricket ground.

With their 24 arrows Ki Bo-bae, Lee Sung-jin and Choi Hyeon-ju of South Korea produced a total of 210 points. The competition was to shoot a target from seventy meters away and each arrow could score a maximum of ten points. The encounter between South Korea and China was a close one as it came down to the last arrow.

It was up to Ki Bo-bae to shoot a nine or better to win the match. She took her time and calmly shot a nine on the last shot and sparked the celebrations for the South Korean team. The men’s team lost to the United States in the semi final of the event.

South Korea’s women have won gold in 13 of the last 14 Olympic competitions. They are favorites to win another gold medal in archery in the individual event at the 2012 London Olympics.

The bronze medal in this event went to Japan, who defeated Russia. This was the first women’s archery medal for the Japanese in the history of Olympics.
