Gallup Korea has named Lee Byung-hun as the best actor of 2012.

Lee received the most support with 37.6 percent in a Gallup Korea poll of 1,700 people aged 13 and older, the pollster said.

Lee was also named the best actor at the 49th Daejong (Grand Bell) Film Awards for his role in the box office-hit “Gwanghae: the Man Who Became King.” The film has attracted 12 million moviegoers.

"Gwanghae," which portrays the 15th monarch of Korea‘s Joseon Kingdom (1392-1910), swept 15 awards, including best picture and best actor, at this year's Daejong Film Awards, South Korean version of “Oscars.”

Lee, 42, stars in TV series “Beautiful Days” (2001), “All In” (2003) and “Iris” (2009), and in the 2009 Hollywood blockbuster “G.I.Joe: The Rise of Cobra.”

In the poll conducted last month, actor Song Joong-ki ranked second with 15 percent of support for his role in “A Werewolf Boy” that has drawn 7 million moviegoers.

Actress Kim Hye-soo and actor Jang Dong-gun placed third and fourth, garnering 7.6 percent and 7.4 percent of support, respectively.
