Heavy rains hit areas north of Seoul Sunday, flooding homes and roads. Swollen streams swept away three people over the weekend, weathermen said.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) issued flood alerts in many parts across the country.

Between Saturday and Sunday, the accumulated rainfall reached up to 285mm in northern parts of Gyeonggi Province, the KMA said.

Nearly 100mm of rain in about an hour battered Yeoncheon near the inter-Korean border.

A man was found dead after being swept away in a stream in nearby Pocheon, and another man was also found dead on a river bank in Namyangju, according to officials.

A man went missing after he tried to rescue his wife and three children from their vehicle on an inundated road in Gapyeong. She and her children all were rescued, the officials said.
