The financial authorities will take steps to cut salaries of executives and employees at insurance companies, industry sources said Thursday.

The move comes as insurers' net profit has recently dropped sharply.

It is hard for the financial authorities to undersand that salaries of insurers' executives and employees are as high as those of banks under the situation that insurers' net profit has halved amid low interest rates and low growth, the sources said.

The annual average salaries of male employees at Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance for fiscal 2012 reached 107.15 million won, followed by Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance with 103 million; LIG Insurance with 98.36 million won; Hanwha Life Insurance with 97 million won; Samsung Life Insurance with 95 million won; Meritz Fire and Marine Insurance with 790 million won; and Dongbu Fire Insurance with 72.74 million won, according to the sources.
