Swansea City in English Premier League wants South Korean midfielder Ki Sung-yueng to remain at the Liberty Stadium, the club’s chairman said.

In an interview with BBC on Wednesday, the chairman, Huw Jenkins, said: "We want to keep him, but obviously he has got to want to stay here and sign a deal with us."

Jenkins made the remarks amid rumors that Ki is being linked to Aston Villa. Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper reported that Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert wants "an experienced holding midfielder" and hopes to acquire Ki from Swansea City, where he has one year left on his contract.

Ki joined Swansea two years ago from Celtic in a £6m deal that broke the club’s transfer record. The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Sunderland.
