Girl group Red Velvet has kicked off a fresh new season by scoring over 1.5 million views on YouTube with "Rookie" in less than 12 hours of the track's release. This is the first time for the girls to gain such enormous popularity since their debut in 2014.

The group's strong kick-start is noticeable as it reminds fans of TWICE, the most successful girl group in 2016 which broke one million marks with "CHEER UP" just on its release day and sold more than 340,000 copies of its new album.

Now, Red Velvet is speculated to be treading the road to success which TWICE has walked last year. "Rookie" released on the midnight of Wednesday has scored more than 1.5 million views on YouTube as of 10 am (0100 GMT). More than 42,000 supporting comments were left by fans.

The new track is currently in the top ten of real-time charts of major online music services and moves up the charts. Fans hope the new track's popularity could be reflected on the sale of Red Velvet's new mini-album scheduled for release on Thursday.
