Rumors about a ghost subway platform lying beneath South Korea's crowded capital have aroused the curiosity of many citizens for decades until the urban legend was confirmed by K-pop music videos.
Luckily for thrill seekers and curious people, the secret subway station that has been closed from the public for almost 50 years will be shown to selected visitors for a limited time as part of Seoul's urban restoration project.
"For safety, the secret platform will be open for reserved visitors only on weekends for about a month," Heo Yang-mi, a deputy director of the Seoul government's general safety department, told Aju News Thursday.
A group of 20 people will be given guided tours four times a day from October 21 to November 26. After its test run, Seoul will decide whether to have the ghost station fully open to the public, Heo said.
"We have already have taken care of most safety issues and we will collect opinions from visitors and safety experts to decide whether the secret platform is suitable for public opening, " she said.
The platform in Sinseol-dong was built in 1972 as part of Seoul's second subway line, but it has never been used because of last minute changes.
As it maintains a perfect condition of the 70s, the platform has been used just as filming spots for music videos and movies in recent years. Music videos produced by popular K-pop groups, TWICE and EXO, showed it.
