S. Korea to demonstrate information and communication technology-based classes in Serbia

SEOUL -- Through a 1.2 billion won ($1 million) state project, South Korea will provide domestic information and communication technologies to Serbia's educational sector, allowing Serbian students to take classes using a smart pad, laptop and other smart equipment. Using smart learning equipment, students can also participate in remote classes and interact with other students on the other side of the world.

The Ministry of Education said in a statement on January 25 that the ministry will demonstrate its information and communication technology (ICT)-based classroom system at an elementary school and a high school in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. "The five-year project is part of the official development assistance (ODA) project designed to upgrade people's livelihood in developing countries," the ministry's public relations official Je Yu-jin told Aju Business Daily. The education ministry will set up high-tech classrooms that incorporate a smart pad, liquid crystal display (LCD) TV and electronic blackboard.

The education ministry has carried out the ODA project since 2011, creating a total of 26 ICT-based classrooms in 20 countries including Nepal and Bangladesh. By hosting an open debate event in Serbia on January 25, the ministry will introduce cases that showed how education environments have changed after the establishment of high-tech classes in Nepal and Bangladesh.

Smart devices were mainly used in South Korea to carry out two-way remote classes amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In December 2021, the central city of Daejeon unveiled its scheme for the establishment of hybrid learning that combines online education materials with its conventional offline education system by distributing electronic blackboards and other smart devices.
