SEOUL -- Hyundai Kefico, an automotive electronic management system company affiliated with South Korea's Hyundai auto group, has secured double deals to expand its presence in Indonesia's rapidly growing electric two-wheeled vehicle market, based on its brand, Mobilgo, which is equipped with total control solutions such as vehicle control, Internet of Things, and cooling systems.

Electric motorcycles will accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in Indonesia because motorcycles are cheap and widely used. On October 25, Hyundai Kefico received a letter of intent from PT Garda Energi Nasional Indonesia to supply 200,000 units of its drive system for 15kW electric motorcycles for five years. The two companies would discuss control solution technologies such as motors, controllers and batteries.

A day later, Hyundai Kefico signed a business agreement with Ikatan Motor Indonesia (IMI) and PT Brum Brum, an electric motorcycle manufacturer, to support the establishment of an electric motorcycle ecosystem in Indonesia. The South Korean company said it is developing a driving system, a mobility data service, and a battery exchange service with the aim of launching electric two-wheeled vehicles with 7kW and 3kW systems in 2022.

Starting with the launch of its 7kW drive system in 2021, Hyundai Kefico would seek to establish a full lineup of electric two-wheeled systems ranging from 3kW to 15kW, targeting Malaysian, Indonesian and other overseas markets.
