CGBIO leads state-funded project to develop new negative pressure wound treatment device

SEOUL -- CGBIO, a total healthcare provider in South Korea, has been selected for a state-funded project to develop a new negative pressure wound cleaning and healing device that can regenerate wounds and treat infections at the same time. The project is aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of localized equipment in the global market dominated by foreign companies.

Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) improves the healing of open nonsurgical wounds using negative pressure for the removal of fluids such as wound exudate, irrigation fluids, bodily fluids, or infectious materials. It has been difficult to apply NPWT to infected patients who have to clean their wounds periodically.

CGBIO will work with researchers from Ajou University Hospital and Pusan National University Hospital to develop and commercialize a mobile one-step device that can regenerate wounds and treat infections in skin tissues at the same time.

"This technology can dramatically reduce healing time, processing time, staffing, and cost of treatment by one-step processing of wound regeneration and removal of bacteria in patients with skin tissue damage," CGBIO CEO Yu Hyun-seung said in a statement on June 27. "We will develop products that can gain an upper hand in competition with global companies to demonstrate the global competitiveness of Korean products."
