Former AMCHAM CEO Receives Korean Medal of Honor



President Lee Myung-bak is shaking hands with Tami Overby, former President & CEO of AMCHAM Korea, after giving Korean medal of honor during a Korea-US CEO Roundtable & Dinner at the Willard Hotel in Washington D.C.

Tami Overby, former President & CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea) was personally presented with 'The Order of Industrial Service Merit, Silver Tower' by President Lee Myung-bak in Washington D.C. on the evening of Tuesday, June 16, 2009.

Ms. Overby was handed the prestigious award during a CEO Roundtable & Dinner at the Willard Hotel attended by both top Korean and American business leaders.

During the presentation, President Lee thanked Ms. Overby for her many years of service to the Korea-U.S. alliance and wished her well in her new capacity as Vice-President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce leading the Asia team.

Ms. Overby stated, "This is an honor I will never forget. This is also a very positive sign of how much the South Korea's Government recognizes the value of foreign direct investment (FDI) and AMCHAM members' many positive contributions to the Korean economy."

"I look forward to my new position leading the U.S. Chamber's Asia team and will continue to promote the Korea-U.S. economic relationship as well as encouraging the U.S. Congress to ratify the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA) as soon as possible," she added.

'The Order of Industrial Service Merit, Silver Tower' is awarded to those who significantly contribute to the national competitiveness of Korea's commerce and industry sector. Ms. Overby was awarded the Bronze Tower in 2004 by the late former President Roh Moo-hyun as well as a Letter of Citation by former President Kim Dae-jung in 2001.

After 21 years of living and working in South Korea and dedicating herself to enhancing the Korea-U.S. business relationship, Ms. Overby will officially begin her new position in Washington D.C. as the head of the Asia team for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as of July 1st, 2009.

The AMCHAM Korea was founded in 1953, with a broad mandate to encourage the development of investment and trade between Korea and the United States. It is the largest foreign chamber in Korea with around 2300 members and over 1100 companies with diverse interests and substantial participation in the Korean economy.
