Night Fishing (Paranmanjang), the 33-minute iPhone short directed by brothers Park Chan-wook and Chan-kyong has been awarded the Golden Bear in the Berlin Festival’s short film competition last Saturday.

The jury sated, “The film in nothing but a small miracle. Throughout the multi-layered original story of a simple man who is forced to confront his life and death through his shape-shifting, we experienced transformation, judgment and deep forgiveness.”

Second (Silver Bear) prize in the same category went to another South Korean film, Broken Night by Korea National University of Arts student Yang Hyo-joo. The 25-minute graduation film premiered at the Pusan festival in October where it won the Sunje Fund Award.

The Golden Bear in the Festival’s main feature competition went to Nader And Siming, A Separation, by Iranian director Ashgar Farhadi.
