As many Koreans are dying from cancer each year nearly 70,000 people in 2009 alone, they are becoming more fearful of the word cancer.

To raise public awareness on cancer and inform people that it can be prevented and cured, the three-day International Cancer Expo & Forum started at the COEX Convention Center in Seoul.

The former Minister of Health and Welfare said, “This expo provides various information for the public, including preventative measures and how to detect the disease at an early stage. It offers good programs and information for those fighting for cancer as well.“

At the expo, people can get a better idea of a good diet that will help you stay healthy, regardless of whether you have cancer or not. And for patients on chemotherapy, there are wigs to try out.

The expo even offers a simple blood test to a liver fibro scan, many kinds of brief medical examinations to all who wish to be tested.

A local Seoul resident who attended the expo said, ”I was afraid to go to the hospital because of the thought of doctors telling me that I have cancer. So an expo like this is really helpful for people like me to get a simple test.“

The survival rate has increased over the years and the medical experts are hopeful that, with the developing technology, more will be easily detected at earlier stages and become curable.
