S Korea’s Conglomerate Increases Its Affiliates and Sizes

South Korea has been increasing its affiliates and assets in recent three years, Fair Trade Commission (FTC) said.

According to the FTC, the government watchdog, the number of affiliates of the top 20 conglomerates was 678 in April 2008, now 922 increasing by 36 percent.

Their combined assets have risen 54.2 percent from 683.6 trillion won to 1054 trillion won in the same period, The Korea Times reported.

For the top five, their combined number of affiliates soared 51 percent with their assets by 59.1 percent.

Samsung Group has increased the number of their affiliates by 19 or 31.1 percent to 78 with their assets going up 86.5 trillion won or almost 60 percent to 231 trillion won.
