Prosecutors on Friday demanded the death penalty for a Korean-Chinese man indicted for kidnapping, raping and killing a 28-year-old woman in Suwon on April 1 and dismembering her body.

The 42-year old Korean-Chinese man, Wu Yuanchun, was arrested at his house in Suwon, 40 kilometers south of Seoul, the day after the grisly murder that also stunned the entire nation due to the police‘s delayed response to the victim’s emergency call for help.

When the issue of the police‘s delayed response was found out, the high-profile murder case led to the resignation of the nation’s police chief who held himself responsible for the delayed response to the emergency call and for ignoring the possibility to save vicim‘s life.

The trial and sentencing are slated for June 15.
