The state-run pension fund's stock holdings in the country's largest four conglomerates have risen sharply for the past five years, the fund's management headquarters said Tuesday.

The National Pension Service (NPS) held 42.54 trillion won worth of shares of the Samsung, LG, SK and Hyundai Motor Groups as of the end of last year, a 3.7-fold rise from 11.46 trillion won at the end of 2007, the office said.

Of the four, Samsung Group took the lion's share of 22.63 trillion won, followed by Hyundai Motor Group (10.90 trillion won), LG Group (4.88 trillion won) and SK Group (4.69 trillion won), the office said.
