China's gross domestic product (GDP) grew 7.5 percent in the second quarter of this year, down 0.2 percentage point from the previous quarter, the country's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported Monday.

In the first six months of this year, GDP growth stood at 7.6 percent, which was above the government's target of 7.5 percent for the year, the report said. The GDP totaled 24.8 trillion yuan (US$4 trillion) in the January-June period.

Sheng Laiyun, a spokesman for the NBS, said, "Major economic indicators are still within reasonable ranges as expected, but the economic environment remains complex," according to the Global Times.

Data showed a continuous slowdown in the world's second-largest economy after growth slowed to 7.8 percent last year, the lowest since 1999.
