"Snowpiercer," a post-apocalyptic sci-fi film directed by Bong Joon-ho, has set a pre-sales record for a South Korean movie, its Korean distributor said Tuesday.

According to CJ E&M in Seoul, "Snowpiercer," Bong's English-language debut film, has been exported to 167 countries before its release at Korean theaters on Aug. 1.

The Weinstein Company in the United States was given the film's distribution rights in North America, Britain, New Zealand and Australia, while distribution rights in France, East Europe and South American went to Wildside in France, CJ said.

"Snowpiercer" stars actor Song Kang-ho and actress Ko Ah-sung, both of Korea; and Hollywood stars Chris Evans, Ed Harris and Octavia Spencer; and Jamie Bell and Tilda Swinton, both British.

Some of the stars will attend a world premier of the US$40 million film, which is scheduled to be held in Seoul on July 29, CJ said.
