South Korea’s per-capita gross national income (GNI) exceeded US$26,000 last year, the central bank reported Wednesday.

The per-capita GNI reached $26,205 in 2013, up 6.1 percent, or $1,509 from $24,696 tallied in the previous year.

Exports, which account for about a half of the gross domestic product (GDP), rose 4.3 percent year-on-year in 2013, lower than 5.1 percent a year earlier.

The country’s economy, meanwhile, grew 3 percent in 2013, faster than expected, on the back of increased exports and consumer spending, the Bank of Korea (BOK) said.

The figure marked the highest yearly growth since 2011 when the GDP grew 3.7 percent.

The economy has recently maintained its moderate recovery with inflationary pressure remaining low.

The BOK has forecast that the economy will grow 3.8 percent in 2014.
