Aircraft maintenance company Evergreen Aviation Technologies and GE Aviation, a subsidiary of U.S.-based General Electric, have signed an agreement to establish a joint factory in Taiwan for maintenance and repair of General Electric’s next-generation aircraft engines. The signing took place on March 31.

The factory, GE Evergreen Engine Services, is the only facility in Asia for repairing aircraft engines.

Evergreen President Chang Kuo-wei was quoted by Taiwan’s Commercial Times newspaper as saying that Evergreen plans to invest at least US$100 million in the first three years to expand the facility.

GE will provide equipment and training for the repair facility later this year, the newspaper said.

Repair work and full repair service are set to begin in 2015 and 2019, respectively.
