Actress Jun Ji-hyun appointed honorary ambassador for Korean tourism

Actress Jun Ji-hyun, the heroine of the mega-hit TV series “My Love from the Star,” has been appointed an honorary ambassador to promote South Korea's tourism, the state-run Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) said Monday.

The 21-episode drama gained popularity in China. It attracted more than 2.5 billion hits on IQIYI, a Chinese video site, according to the Seoul-based management agency KeyEast.

According to government data, the number of Chinese visitors to South Korea jumped 52.5 percent to 4.3 million in 2013 from the previous year.

In the soap opera, Jun plays a top actress who falls in love with an alien from different planet (played by Kim Soo-hyun) who landed on Earth 400 years ago during Korea’s Joseon Kingdom.
