Internet banking subscribers rise 8.1% in 2014: central bank

The number of subscribers to Internet banking services, including mobile banking services, in South Korea totaled 103.19 million as of the end of last year, up 8.1 percent from a year earlier, the central bank said on Wednesday.

They included overlapping subscribers at 17 domestic banks and Korea Post, the Bank of Korea (BOK) said in a press release.

Of the total subscribers, 49.21 million or 47.7 percent had actually used Internet banking services during the past one year, the BOK said.

Individual subscribers rose 7.8 percent to 96.83 million in 2014 from the previous year, while corporate subscribers totaled 6.36 million in number, up 11.6 percent from the end of 2013.  

The volume of Internet banking service use (daily average basis) amounted to 66.45 million transactions last year, up 22.4 percent from 2013; and the value involved was 36.85 trillion won, up 9.5 percent.
