U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Mark Lippert Tuesday thanked South Koreans and Americans for their support in the wake of the knife-wielding attack by a radical activist in Seoul on March 5.

"I feel pretty darn good all things considered," Lippert told reporters as he was discharged from Yonsei University's Severance Hospital in Seoul where he received five days of treatment for injuries to his face and hand. "I want to express my profound gratitude to those Koreans and Americans alike who so bravely, gratefully and selflessly responded to the scene of the attack and the medical team that delivered a world-class treatment," he said.

He said that the alliance between South Korea and the United States will remain firm. "This incident has only strengthened our love and affection for this country and our belief in the unbreakable bond that exists between the United States and the Republic of Korea," he said. The Republic of Korea is the official name of South Korea.

The 42-year-old Lippert, who is the youngest U.S. diplomatic mission chief to South Korea, assumed the ambassadorial post in October last year.
