South Korean music fans have slammed BTS, known as the Bulletproof Boys, for using Big Bang tags in the group's new music video uploaded onto YouTube.
Tags are inserted in uploading contents online to help fans use a tagged keyword in search portals. BTS' new music video "Blood, Sweat & Tears" will be shown when fans search for Big Bang, resulting in an increase in the view count of BTS' music video (MV).
Tags named "Big Bang" and "빅뱅" (Big Bang in Korean) were included in the list of tags uploaded onto YouTube by the agency of BTS. Normally such tags are hidden unless someone uses certain programs such as Chrome browser's extension.
The Big Bang tags were deleted but an online debate has spread to communities such as music forums and fan club freeboards.
An anonymous user wrote on South Korea's major online community Nate Pann: "This is not the first time the Big Bang tags were used in BTS MVs. No wonder the new MV got so many view counts. Using Big Bang to promote them is a cheat."
ARMY, the fan club of BTS, claimed the tags do not really affect the search results and it's common for artists to tag fellow artists. Other fans argued that sometimes artists tag fellow artists only from the same agency onto their MVs.
