The original version of Hyundai Mobis Parking System (MPS) was first introduced in 2021 to offer easy-to-use parking services for drivers who find it hard to park in tight parking spaces or compact parking lots. The system will prevent cars from colliding with walls or nearby pedestrians.
Unlike other similar systems developed by foreign companies, the South Korean company's technique does not use expensive lidar or radar sensors. Instead, MOBIS' MPS uses ultrasonic sensors and surround view monitors that are commonly equipped by higher trims of ordinary car models.
Hyundai Mobis said that the newly-developed upgraded version of MPS houses the memory parking assist (MPA) feature which allows drivers to teach vehicles the optimal parking route inside a certain parking area. Once the vehicle learns the route, the driver can start the autonomous parking process through a one-touch operation. The upgraded version of MPS can memorize up to 100 meters (328 feet) of route.
The new MPS also supports remote smart parking assist (RSPA) that autonomously controls a vehicle while parking in a parallel or perpendicular space. The system uses image-based sensor fusion technology to recognize parking lines. The car parts maker said it will further upgrade its autonomous parking system to feature automated valet parking (AVP) which is a fully unmanned parking system.
