SEOUL, September 10 (AJP) - Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has urged the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to convene an emergency summit to address the Gaza conflict and what he called Israel’s attacks on Jerusalem.
Erdogan, a strong critic of Israel’s actions in Gaza against Hamas, called on Islamic nations to unite against what he described as Israel's "expansionism."
Speaking after a cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdogan accused Israel of targeting the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem as part of a broader territorial agenda. He emphasized that Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa mosque, known to Jews as the Temple Mount, are Turkey’s “red line.”
The OIC, which represents 57 Muslim-majority nations, is tasked with defending the cause of Jerusalem. Erdogan urged the organization to take swift action and hold a leadership summit to address these concerns.
Additionally, Erdogan announced that Turkey would bring a case to the International Court of Justice in The Hague regarding the death of Turkish-American protester Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, who was killed during a demonstration in the West Bank. He vowed to take all necessary legal steps to ensure justice, holding Israel’s leadership accountable for its actions.
