The company has been selected to supply cables for a 320kV voltage-sourced converter HVDC and 500kV high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) project in California. The contract, awarded by U.S. power company LS Power Grid California, is valued at about 90 billion won ($67 million).
The project aims to enhance grid reliability in Northern California, particularly in Silicon Valley and San Jose, where power demand has surged due to the growth of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced IT businesses.
"High-voltage power grids like HVDC and 500kV HVAC require specialized installation capabilities, with track record being a crucial factor in winning contracts," Taihan said. "Our growing portfolio in this high-value sector will serve as a foundation for expanding our presence in the North American market."
This latest contract brings Taihan's new orders in the U.S. to about 610 billion won this year, contributing to a record performance. The company has been focusing on the U.S. market since 2017, anticipating increased demand for aging power grid replacements.
