SEOUL -- Joy, a Red Velvet member, apologized to fans for showing an unprofessional stage action because of exploding fireworks that sent her running away to hide behind the screen.
"I am writing to say I am sorry. I had been frightened of fireworks after seeing their explosion in front of my eyes in the past. I did not expect them to go off today," the 22-year-old said in an Instagram post uploaded on Sunday.
Joy was performing at a music festival in the eastern lakeside county of Gapyeong on May 11, when a set of fireworks went off. She panicked and ran to the side of the stage covering her ears and crouched down behind the stage's right-wing space until staff and other band members rushed to comfort her.
The singer assured fans that she is alright and apologized for being nonprofessional. "I came to hate myself for not acting like a professional whenever I face an unexpected situation," she said.
Joy's Instagram post received a lot of positive comments from fans. "There's nothing to apologize for! Trauma is something that affects us deeply. Take care of yourself Joy," said "luviemoonie", an Instagram user.
