SEOUL -- ITZY, a teenage girl band formed by JYP Entertainment, has garnered 8.6 million YouTube views with the music video for its new song "WANNABE" in less than 24 hours of its release.
WANNABE is the title song of the five-member band's comeback mini-album "IT'z ME." The music video for WANNABE was watched 8,619,374 times on YouTube as of 9:00 a.m. Tuesday since it was released at 6:00 p.m. (0900 GMT) Monday.
Tens of thousands of fans greeted the band's comeback with some 65,000 comments. Many fans shared the song's theme that urged listeners to embrace themselves and cherish their own personal color instead of trying to be somebody else.
"To be honest, in my first listen I said I don't like this song. But when I give it another try damn I'm was wrong. Now I'm repeating it for how many times!" said Nicoolee Park, a YouTube user. Another user Thana said: "Wow, itzy just how they are perfect and the roll the girl crush concept."
ITZY has earned the title of "Monster Rookie" when it successfully debuted in February. While TWICE, the iconic girl band of JYP, bears a friendly girlfriend-like concept, ITZY shows a girl-crush image by expressing music with strong beats and powerful choreography.
