Hanwha Solutions joined hands with the holding company of Kolmar Korea and Yeon-U, a domestic cosmetics container maker, to push for the development, production, and distribution of eco-friendly cosmetics containers. The goal is to replace 50 percent of cosmetics tubes produced by Kolmar Korea with eco-friendly materials by 2030 and to increase the supply of eco-friendly packaging containers to global cosmetics companies.
Hanwha Solutions and Yeon-U have already completed the development of eco-friendly cosmetics containers with recycled polyethylene raw materials through joint research. Resource circulation efficiency is high as more than 40 percent of recycled polyethylene materials. Yeon-U, acquired by Kolmar Korea, has commercialized airless pumps, which prevent oxidation of content in containers by completely blocking the inflow of external air.
A growing number of countries joined an international campaign to restrict the use of disposable plastic products. South Korea's beauty product market gets more eco-friendly by adopting biodegradable packages. Currently, almost every cosmetics products use plastic or glass packaging designed to hold liquid-type or paste-type products. Cosmetics makers favor plastic packages because of their durability and ability to absorb shock.
Kolmar Korea has developed an eco-friendly paper package for cosmetics products. In October 2021, Cosmax, a cosmetics original development manufacturer, unveiled its scheme to develop eco-friendly cosmetics containers using post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials that are made from the items that consumers recycle every day.
