6.8 Magnitude Aftershock Hits Eastern Coast of Japan Again

A powerful 6.8 magnitude aftershock hit the Japan's east coast again, following a massive 8.9 magnitude earthquake on Friday afternoon.

According to the USGS, at least 14 aftershocks, from 5-6.8 magnitude, hit off Japan's east cost on Saturday.

According to media reports, the death toll from earthquake and tsunami reached more than 1,000, including 576 dead and 725 missing. Up to 300 bodies were recovered in the city of Sendai, the most damaged area from this disasters.

A residential area affected by tsunami is seen in Soma, Fukushima in northern Japan on Saturday.

"More than 90 percent of the houses in three coastal communities havd been washed away by tsunami," a city official from Futaba was quouted by NHK as saying.
