South Korean Ballet Company to perform ‘Swan Lake’ in South Africa

The South Korean Embassy in Johannesburg, South Africa, Korea Foundation and Joburg Theater will sponsor the ballet performance P. Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” in Johannesburg from March 16th to the 19th.

South Korea’s Universal Ballet will perform to commemorate the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and South Africa.

The South Korean ballet team will put on the Mariinsky Theater version of “Swan Lake” at Joburg Theater. The team has performed the Mariinsky version of “Swan Lake” in 12 countries, including the United States, Canada, Germany and Italy.

In addition, the South Korean team has planned to run special programs such as having an open day for dress rehearsal to Johannesburg’s local ballet students and holding a workshop, which the South Korean team will run a joint class with South African Ballet Company who are a resident performing group at Joburg Theater.

The general director of South Korea’s Universal Ballet, Julia Moon, said she aims to introduce the high standard of Korean ballet to the world with the Johannesburg performances and let the world know the diversity of Korean art culture, which has been mainly known for traditional arts.
