Brittany Wenger, a 17-year-old Junior in high school, won a grand prize at Google Science Fair this year for inventing an artificial brain to detect breast cancer.

The Global Neural Network Cloud Service identifies tumors with 99.1% accuracy even in minimal invasions according to her presentation.

Using how actual brain functions, she ‘replicated the brain in software to achieve artificial intelligence.’ She called it Artificial Neural Networks. This program can detect patterns that are too complex for humans. (Wenger presentation slides/Google)

Also, she created Fine Needle Aspirates (FNAs) for doctors instead of traditional biopsy. According to her presentation, FNA’s are the least invasive biopsy for easier and earlier detection of cancer.

With an interview with NBC, she said she began her research in her 7th grade. Also, she said once she has more date her program would be ready for hospitals.
