Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Park Chan-ho was named international goodwill ambassador of the Korean community in Los Angeles, Nov. 13 (U.S. time). Park now plays for South Korea's Hanhwa Eagles club.

Bae Moo-han, who heads the Korean community in Los Angeles, presented Park with a plaque during a ceremony held at the Korean Hall there.

Park, 39, assumed the post to join hands with the Korean group in Los Angeles to help better serve Korean residents there, sources said.

Park was the first South Korean-born player in Major League history. He is the Asian-born pitcher with most career wins, 124. In winter, he usually stays at his home in Los Angeles.

The Korean community in Los Angeles, which marked its 50th anniversary on Nov. 1, said it will establish a junior Koreans' group, dubbed "KANEX," in early December.
