Foreign visitors will soon be able to access free Wi-Fi in Taiwan, the tourism bureau said Jan. 14.

The measure, part of the government's programs to promote tourism, is scheduled to be implemented in a couple of months, Taiwan Today reported, quoting an official at the tourism bureau.

i-Taiwan Wi-Fi will be available at thousands of hotspots across Taiwan to tourists registering passport numbers, the report said. Currently, the service is only available to local residents with a cellular number.

Once registered, foreign visitors can download the bureau’s Tour Taiwan app and access its tourism cloud featuring information on accommodation, restaurants, scenic spots, special activities and transportation, the report said. The app, both in Chinese and English, is available free of charge.
