North Korea Thursday accepted South Korea's proposal to hold talks on the resumption of a reunion of families separated by the 1950-53 Korean War at the truce village of Panmunjeom, the Ministry of Unification said.

During the meeting scheduled for Friday, the two Koreas will discuss matters regarding family reunions around the Chuseok holiday that falls on Sept. 19 this year according to the lunar calendar. Chuseok is Korean version of the Thanksgiving Day.

In a message sent earlier in the day, Pyongyang accepted Seoul's proposal to hold talks on family reunions at Panmunjeom, the ministry said. The North had called for the holding of talks at Mt. Geumgang on its east coast.

Pyongyang also called for the holding of working-level talks on the resumption of tours to the Mt. Geumgang resort as soon as possible, the ministry said. The joint tourism project has been suspended since a South Korean tourist was shut to death by a North Korean soldier at the resort in July 2008.

The North wants the Mt. Geumgang talks to take place in early September at the latest, earlier than Sept. 25 proposed by the South, it said.
