Golfer Choi Kyoung-ju named goodwill ambassador for Asian Games

Golfer Choi Kyoung-ju was named a goodwill ambassador for the Asian Games to be held in Incheon, about 40 kilometers west of Seoul, from Sept. 19 through Oct. 4.

Kim Young-soo, president of the 2014 Incheon Asian Games Organizing Committee, presented a plaque of appointment to Choi, a PGA Tour veteran, during a ceremony held at Sky72 Golf and Resort in Incheon.

"It's a great honor for me to be named a goodwill ambassador for the Asian Games to be held in my home country," Choi said, adding that he will do his utmost to help promote the Games.

Other personalities, who have been appointed to serve as publicity envoys for the Incheon Asian Games, include Choo Shin-soo, an outfielder of the MLB Texas Rangers; Park Tae-hwan, a gold medalist swimmer at the 2008 Beijing Olympics; Lee Bong-joo, silver medallist in the marathon at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics; Son Yeon-jae, a popular female rhythmic gymnast who placed fifth in the individual all-around at the 2012 London Olympics; and Lee Si-young, a well-known actress and female amateur boxer.
