Kim of Albirex Niigata, a Japanese J. League Division 1 association club, has yet to fully recover from an ankle injury, officials at the Korea Football Association (KFA) said.
Kim suffered an injury to his right ankle during a J. League soccer match on May 6.
Head coach Hong Myung-bo decided to replace Kim with Mainz’s Park who has recovered from a foot injury which could have caused his omission from the original World Cup roster announced on May 8, the officials said.
Park is expected to compete with Yun Suk-young of English club Queens Park Rangers (QPR) for the left back position.
