At 3:34 p.m., the mercury in the capital climbed to 30.9 degrees Celsius, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA).
Temperatures in central inland and southeastern Gyeongsang areas were 5 to 9 degrees higher than usual, the KMA said.
The mercury stood at 35.6 degrees Celsius in Daegu; 33.0 degrees in Yeongwol, Gangwon Province; and 34.4 degrees in Gochang, South Gyeongsang Province.
The unusual high temperatures are expected to grip the country until Monday, weathermen said.
Highs in Seoul will reach 32 degrees Celsius on Friday, they said.
