Pope Francis plans to meet the families of those killed in the sinking of the ferry Sewol in April and school children, who survived the disaster, during his visit to South Korea from Aug. 14 to 18, the preparatory committee for the papal visit said Tuesday.

The face-to-face meeting will be held after a Mass to mark the Assumption Day to be held at Daejeon World Cup Stadium on Aug. 15, committee officials said.

The 6,825-ton Sewol carrying 476 people sank off South Korea’s southwest coast on April 16, leaving more than 300 people dead or missing, mostly high school students who were on a field trip to the southern resort island of Jeju.

During his visit, Pope Francis will also attend a meeting of Asian Catholic youths, carry out a beatification ceremony for the 124 Korean martyrs and hold a meeting with Asian bishops.
