
Lee Kwang-jong, who led the South Korean men's national football team to a gold medal in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, was named as head coach of the country's U-23 national team for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the nation's football governing body said Thursday. South Korea won its first gold in the Asian Games event in 28 years.
The appointment was made in a meeting of the Korea Football Association's (KFA) technical committee at the National Football Center in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, Oct. 15, the KFA said.
Lee, 50, recorded Round of 16 of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2011 and quarter-final of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2013.
The South Korean national football team won the bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.
