The figure accounted for 4.1 percent of the total 196,359 foreign-brand cars sold in the country last year, according to the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association.
BMW 520d ranked second with 6,546 vehicles sold, followed by Mercedes-Benz E 220 CDI (5,921 units), Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI (5,282), Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TDI (4,577) and Lexus ES300h (4,386).
Three four-wheel drive models were also included in the 10 best-selling models. They were BMW 520d xDrive (seventh, 3,982), Mercedes-Benz E250 CDI 4Matic (eighth, 3,607)) and Audi A6 3.0 TDI Quattro (10th, 3,459).
