As the MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) epidemic has slowed in South Korea for the past weeks, Incheon International Airport, the main gateway to the country, is crowded with Korean travelers to enjoy their summer vacation abroad, Sunday. According to the nation's two largest travel agencies - Hana Tour and Mode Tour, the number of Korean travelers going abroad totaled a combined 253,000 in June, up 18.4 percent from 213,700 a year earlier. However, more than 130,000 foreigners, mostly Chinese, have canceled trips to Korea since the government confirmed the first outbreak of the viral respiratory disease in the country on May 20, the state-run Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) said.
