South Korea's largest mobile carrier SK Telecom Wednesday appointed a genius hacker to lead its artificial intelligence company "Nuguna Corp."
"NUGU" is a voice operated AI system launched at the end of August. Users are able to control any home appliances connected to a network by talking through a NUGU speaker.
Nuguna Corp. headed by Lee Doo-hee is a virtual company where professionals and NUGU users share thoughts to develop new services. SK Telecom will hold idea contests every month and winners will be given prizes such as attest laptop computers and smart devices.
An SK Telecom's official said: "It is hard to expect a leap in the evolution of AI from a single company's manpower. But with collective knowledge, we can expect a noticeable improvement in AI technology."
Lee will be aided by AI professionals including Jung Jae-seung, a professor from KAIST's school of Brain and Bioengineering and Jang Byung-tak from Seoul National University's school of computer science and engineering, and more.
Lee, a former Seoul National University student, gained his fame in 2016 when he attacked the university's network to steal personal files of actress Kim Tae-hee including her photographs from her high school years.
