South Korea's scandal-stricken President Park Geun-hye sent a congratulatory message to US President-elect Donald Trump Wednesday, calling for close cooperation in security and other issues.
In her message, Park called for "strengthened bilateral cooperation in handling important issues such as North Korea and to reinforce the alliance between South Korea and the United States", the president's office said.
Separately, Park presided over a National Security Council meeting to discuss the impact of the US election and urged the foreign ministry to establish a channel of communications with Trump's camp, the office said.
Park stressed Seoul should develop close cooperation with the upcoming Trump administration to push for strong sanctions against North Korea.
