S. Korea's confectionery and bakery giant demonstrates instant delivery service

SEOUL -- Sector 9, an information and communication technology wing of South Korean confectionery and bakery giant SPC Group, released an instant delivery service called "Happy Butler." Through the new delivery service, users can quickly receive regular commercial items such as household goods and processed food as well as products from SPC's franchise brands including Baskin Robbins.
Sector 9 said in a statement on December 2 that users can access the new instant delivery service through the company's delivery app called "Happy Order." The service is currently available only in Gangnam, a crowded commercial district in southern Seoul. After the demonstration, the service will be expanded to other regions in Seoul and its satellite cities.
Data released by the Korea Fair Trade Commission, a state trade watchdog, showed that South Korea's delivery service app market stood at 3 trillion won ($2.5 billion) as of 2019. South Korea's major convenient stores provide delivery services to customers through food delivery apps. Delivery agencies receive fees of about 4,100 won ($3.51) per delivery run.
Yogiyo, a popular domestic food delivery service app, launched a grocery delivery service to deliver products from convenience stores including South Korea's largest convenience store brand CU. According to the operator of CU, the average delivery sales of stores increased by 19.2 percent after partnering with Yogiyo in 2019. CU said that 46 percent of the total delivery orders were sanitary products including condoms and sanitary pads.
