SEOUL -- The top three South Korean mobile carriers -- SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus -- are in their last preparation process to ensure stable mobile phone services during the Seoul International Fireworks Festival scheduled on October 7.

The Seoul International Fireworks Festival hosted by South Korean conglomerate Hanwha is an annual event that takes place in Yeouido, a river island in the Han River that flows through the capital city from the east and out to the West Sea, also known as the Yellow Sea.

The annual event attracts more than one million people to the river island and other areas where the fireworks can be seen. Sometimes the crowd experiences communication blackouts, making the spectators unable to make mobile payments or message their friends.

According to SK Telecom on October 6, the mobile carrier is focusing on the monitoring and analysis of crowds of people to predict data traffic in densely crowded areas and people's moving routes. Mobile base stations for 4G and 5G communications will be installed along with WiFi nodes to disperse the data traffic.

KT also finished deploying mobile base stations in areas that are predicted to have huge crowds of people. The company also beefed up the maximum data capacity of communication nodes and launched a real-time monitoring program to prevent communication blackouts. LGU+ took similar measures to provide the best communication quality for the company's customers. All data traffic will be managed in real-time.
