SEOUL -- Multinational K-pop boy band NCT Dream was awarded the grand prize at South Korea's annual music awards for this year. The seven-member band took the first place at the Seoul Music Awards two years in a row.

NCT Dream is a subgroup of NCT, an 18-member project group formed by SM Entertainment in 2016. Billboard chose NCT Dream as one of the 21 most talented artists or groups under the age of 21 for the third time in 2021. The Billboard list is determined based on various standards including social media awareness and sales of albums and songs.

The group was awarded the grand prize at the 33rd Seoul Music Awards on January 2. Boy band Seventeen received the trophy for the best album and girl band NewJeans won the best song award. Other prize winners include Stray Kids, STAYC, IVE, aespa, BTS' V, and BTS' Jimin. This year's award ceremony was held at Thailand's national stadium "Rajamangala." This is the first time that the Seoul Music Awards took place outside of South Korea.

Previous record holders for the grand prize were EXO (2013~2017), BTS (2017~2020), Seotaiji and the boys (1992~1993), H.O.T (1997~1998), Cho Sung-mo (1999~2000), and Girl's Generation (2010~2011).
