SEOUL -- Through a collaboration that was kick-started in January 2023, South Korean electronics giant LG Electronics and global mobility technology company Magna have succeeded in the development of an integrated autonomous vehicle platform, the South Korean tech giant said.
The two companies showcased their proof of concept for their in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system and advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the world's largest annual electronics exhibition held in Las Vegas, in 2022. LG said the new concept will bear LG's infotainment capabilities and Magna's automated driving technologies.
LG said in a statement on January 4 that the company finished the development of a platform that is integrated with an IVI system and an ADAS system. LG and Magna's technologies were embedded in a system on chip, an integrated chipset system.
According to the tech giant, the integrated autonomous vehicle platform will be commercialized and applied to ordinary vehicles in 2027. The platform will be unveiled for carmakers at this year's CES which will be held from January 9 until January 12.
The South Korean electronics maker boasted that its integrated platform module is smaller in size than separate modules created for IVI and ADAS systems, making it easier for carmakers to utilize bigger areas when designing vehicles.
"We have finished a solution that contributes to the development of future mobility technologies through strong synergy created between innovative technologies," LG Electronics Vice President Eun Seok-hyun said.
