Kolon Industries FnC, the outdoor brand behind Kolon Sports, announced on June 22 that it will host the "Kolon Trail Camp - Dongseo Trail" in October and is currently recruiting participants.
The Dongseo Trail is a long-distance backpacking route being developed by the Korea Forest Service. It spans 849 kilometers across the Korean Peninsula from Taean in South Chungcheong Province to Uljin in North Gyeongsang Province. Currently, 244 kilometers across 17 sections are in trial operation, with plans to open the entire route by October next year.
This event will follow a self-directed trail format, allowing participants to choose their starting point, route, companions, schedule, pace, and camping sites. All participants must arrive at the final destination, an apple orchard in Bonghwa County, North Gyeongsang Province, between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on October 10.
To assist participants in their planning, Kolon Sports has prepared three recommended routes: a 120-kilometer course from Uljin (Section 55) to Bonghwa (Section 47) crossing the East Sea and Baekdudaegan; a 60-kilometer course from Danyang (Section 43) to Bonghwa (Section 47) along the ridges and village paths of the Sobaeksan Mountains; and a 25-kilometer course from Chunyang (Section 49) to Bonghwa (Section 47) through a highland gorge.
The first round of applications will open on June 24 at 2 p.m. through the official Kolon Sports online store, with participation fees ranging from 120,000 to 140,000 won. A second round of regular applications is expected to take place at the end of July, with fees between 150,000 and 170,000 won.
All participants will receive a pre-event kit that includes a trail hat, tag, and pouch. Finishers will be awarded a long-sleeve T-shirt featuring a map of the Dongseo Trail and an embroidery kit to document their journey.
A representative from Kolon Sports stated, "This will be the starting point for rediscovering the reasons behind walking and creating one's own journey in the culture of long-distance hiking in Korea."
Meanwhile, Kolon FnC recently held the "Kolon Trail Camp Ulleung" from June 4 to 6, attracting significant interest from outdoor enthusiasts with a full capacity of 120 participants exploring the primitive forests and coastal terrain of Ulleung Island through hiking, trail running, and climbing programs.
